Everything you need to know about GiveNothing

New to GiveNothing?

Take a quick guided tour to learn how everything works.

Getting Started

GiveNothing is a collective giving platform where members contribute small amounts (as little as £1 per month) that get pooled together. Each week, the community votes on which registered UK charity receives the pool. By joining forces, we turn pocket change into meaningful donations.

Voting happens in weekly stages. Stage 1 runs Monday to Tuesday, Stage 2 runs Wednesday to Friday, and Stage 3 covers the weekend. You get one vote per stage, allowing you to support up to three charities each week. Your votes help charities qualify for funding and determine their share of the pool.

The name reflects our core philosophy: the amounts we ask you to give feel like nothing. A pound or two a month is barely noticeable in your daily life, but when thousands of people contribute together, that "nothing" becomes something powerful. Give nothing. Fund everything.

GiveNothing is a platform that facilitates collective giving to registered UK charities. We connect donors directly with charities through our voting system. All charities on our platform are verified and registered with the UK Charity Commission.

Contributions

You can choose to contribute £1, £2, £5, or £10 per month. If you want to give more, custom amounts above £10 are also available. There is no minimum commitment period, and you can adjust your contribution at any time.

We are currently in beta, so no payments are being processed yet. During beta, you can set your intended contribution amount and participate in voting. When we launch payments, your contribution will be processed monthly. You will be notified before any charges begin.

Your contribution goes into the monthly pool, which is distributed to the top 5 qualifying charities. Each qualifying charity receives a guaranteed 10% of the pool, with the remaining 50% allocated proportionally based on their share of votes. This ensures multiple charities benefit while rewarding community favourites.

Yes, you can adjust or cancel your contribution at any time from your Profile page. Since we are in beta, no payments are currently being processed. Once payments go live, you will be able to cancel before your next billing date.

Tax treatment depends on your personal circumstances and the charity receiving funds. Many UK charities are eligible for Gift Aid, which allows them to claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated. We recommend consulting a tax advisor for specific guidance.

Voting & Charities

The first 20 days of each month are the qualifying period. During this time, the community votes and the top 5 charities by vote count qualify for that month's pool. Once a charity qualifies, it is guaranteed to receive funding.

Each of the top 5 qualifying charities receives a guaranteed 10% of the monthly pool (50% total). The remaining 50% is then distributed proportionally based on each charity's share of votes among the top 5. This means every qualifying charity gets meaningful funding, while community favourites receive more.

All charities on our platform are registered with the UK Charity Commission. We verify each charity before adding them. Community members can also suggest new charities through the Suggest a Charity feature on the Charities page.

Yes! Since voting happens in three stages each week, you can vote for up to three different charities per week (one vote per stage). This allows you to support multiple causes you care about.

Absolutely! Visit the Charities page and use the Suggest a Charity section. You will need the charity's name, UK Charity Commission registration number, and optionally their website. Other members can upvote your suggestion.

Every charity on our platform must be registered with the UK Charity Commission. We display registration numbers that you can verify on the official gov.uk charity register. We do not add unregistered organisations.

Referrals & Galaxy

Your Galaxy is a visual representation of your referral network. You are at the centre, and each person you invite appears as a node orbiting around you. When they invite others, those appear in outer rings. It shows the ripple effect of your impact.

Every member gets a unique referral link and code. When someone signs up using your link, they become part of your network. Your "Sphere of Influence" includes your own contribution plus the contributions of everyone in your referral network.

The reward is impact! Your Sphere of Influence grows with each referral, showing the total monthly contribution your network generates. You also unlock badges as you grow your network, from First Spark (first referral) to Supernova (25+ referrals).

There is no limit. The more people you invite, the larger your Galaxy grows and the greater your collective impact on the charities we support.

Account & Privacy

Go to your Profile page and adjust the contribution slider. Changes take effect from your next billing cycle. You can increase, decrease, or pause contributions at any time.

Yes. In your profile settings, you can toggle your profile visibility. When set to private, other members will not be able to see your profile page, though you will still appear anonymously on leaderboards.

Contact us at info@givenothing.co.uk to request account deletion. We will cancel any active subscriptions and remove your personal data in accordance with GDPR requirements.

Yes. We use industry-standard encryption for all data in transit and at rest. We are currently in beta, so no payment information is collected yet. When payments launch, we will use a PCI-compliant payment processor and never store your full card details on our servers.

We collect your email, display name (optional), contribution amount, voting history, and referral relationships. We do not sell your data to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Badges & Achievements

Badges are unlocked automatically when you reach certain milestones. These include setting your contribution, casting votes, referring friends, voting for qualifying charities, and more. Check the Badges section on your My Impact page to see available badges.

Badges come in four rarities: Common (green), Rare (blue), Epic (purple), and Legendary (gold). Rarity reflects how challenging a badge is to earn. Legendary badges like "Supernova" require significant dedication.

Badges are recognition of your contributions to the community. They appear on your profile and demonstrate your commitment to collective giving. While they do not provide monetary benefits, they celebrate your impact.
